GAZA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Philip Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), on Friday called for a "meaningful and uninterrupted" flow of aid into the Gaza Strip.
In a post on social media platform X, Lazzarini said that "saving lives must overtake military and political agendas," adding, "the people of Gaza cannot wait any longer."
Aid trucks began entering Gaza on Monday, marking the first delivery after an 11-week Israeli blockade on food, medicine, and fuel. Israeli authorities said they have allowed more trucks into Gaza over the past two days.
However, Lazzarini cautioned that "the aid going in now is a needle in a haystack," stressing that "a meaningful and uninterrupted flow of aid is the only way to prevent the current disaster from spiraling further."
