KUWAIT, 6th May, 2025 (WAM) -- Kuwait will host the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) next Sunday, with the participation of the UAE delegation, along with officials from the National Olympic Committees of 45 Asian countries under the slogan "One Asia."
Hussein Al-Musallam, Director-General of the Olympic Council of Asia, stated that the meetings will witness the attendance of around 400 sports figures from Asia and around the world. The event will kick off with a cultural celebration at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, featuring folkloric performances from China, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Lebanon, and Kuwait as an expression of athletic unity across the Asian continent.
He added that the meetings will continue on Monday with the convening of the General Assembly of the Council, attended by the heads of National Olympic Committees from member states, to discuss the development of the Olympic movement in the continent. The aim is to enhance sports and uphold noble values based on friendship and respect.
He expressed his hope that this continental sports gathering will succeed and result in decisions that elevate Asian Olympic sports.
Al-Musallam pointed out that the current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), German Dr. Thomas Bach, and the newly elected President, former Olympic champion and seven-time Olympic medalist Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe, will be among the prominent guests. Many presidents of Asian sports federations and prominent international sports figures are also expected to attend.
He noted that the meeting is a significant international sports event hosted by Kuwait, the headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the National Olympic Committees and the Council, and supporting efforts to develop sports across the continent. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the National Olympic Committees and the Council to ensure the success of all sports events.
He further explained that Asia has become an important force in the international Olympic movement, having hosted seven Summer and Winter Olympic Games in its cities. Asian athletes are strong contenders for top positions in the Olympic Games, and efforts will continue to further advance the Asian Olympic sports movement.
