DUBAI, 26th April, 2025 (WAM) - The UAE will participate in the 25th edition of the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 25), which will be hosted by the city of Dhahran in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from May 4 to 12, with the participation of more than 240 male and female students from 30 Asian and Oceanian countries.
The UAE's participation reaffirms its commitment to supporting and nurturing talented individuals in the fields of science and technology, in line with its national vision to promote innovation and scientific leadership at the regional and global levels.
Educational institutions concerned have worked to prepare the participating students through intensive training programs covering both the theoretical and practical aspects of physics.
The participating students will engage in advanced scientific challenges through two main tests - one theoretical and one practical - lasting a total of 10 hours, aimed at enhancing their academic and research expertise and preparing them for future participation in the International Physics Olympiad.
This edition of the Olympiad is witnessing broad participation from Gulf and Arab countries, alongside leading Asian nations in the field of science, providing a stimulating and competitive environment for talented students.
The annual international competition for talented high school students in physics from around the world, hosted by the Kingdom for the first time, is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM).
The APhO is one of the most prominent annual international science competitions for talented high school students in physics. It brings together participants from Asian countries that have achieved high rankings in the International Physics Olympiad.
Originated from the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), APhO started in the year 2000 in Indonesia with 10 participating countries, and in 2024, the participating countries/territories grew to 24 countries.
