MEXICO CITY, Mexico: Three American women were found dead over the weekend at a beach resort in Belize, police said. Officials are looking into whether drug overdoses were the cause.
The women were identified as 23-year-old Kaoutar Naqqad, 24-year-old Imane Mallah, and 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar. They were staying at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort. Police did not share more details.
Resort staff tried to contact the women several times last week after security cameras showed them entering their room but never leaving. When they got no response, staff used a master key to enter and found the women unresponsive.
The cause of death is still unknown, but first responders said they had froth in their mouths, which could mean a drug overdose.
Police found no signs of forced entry or injuries. The room contained snacks, drinks, vapes, and electronic devices.
The investigation is ongoing.
