BAGHDAD, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday that the negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have moved from the security to the diplomatic track and the talks previously held in Iraq will continue.
The ministry's spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) that it's important to resolve differing points of view and outstanding issues between the two sides in a way that meets "the interests of each party and interests at the regional level."
"We are coordinating between the two sides for the possibility of achieving other rounds of dialogue," the spokesman was quoted by INA as saying.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran in early 2016 in protest against the attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran following the Saudi execution of a Shiite cleric.
Previously, Baghdad hosted five rounds of direct talks that aimed at normalizing relations between the two regional powers.
