BAGHDAD, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and 43 wounded on Tuesday as a gas tank exploded in a residential area in Duhok Province in Iraq's semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan.
The blast occurred after a leak from a liquefied petroleum gas tank used for heating on the top of a three-storey student dormitory building in the namesake provincial capital Duhok, Fakhri Ahmed, Duhok's police director, told a press conference.
Two police officers who helped the rescue efforts were killed and a policeman was wounded, Ahmed said.
The gas tank explosion comes just days after a previous one in Sulaimaniyah Province in the Iraqi Kurdish region that killed at least 11 and wounded about 13.
After the latest explosion, Masrour Barzani, prime minister of the Kurdistan Region, has ordered the Kurdish authorities to completely stop the use of such gas systems and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
