TOKYO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower on Friday as the market mood was dampened by disappointing earnings from some Japanese firms against a backdrop of concern over the economic impact of a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in some European countries.
Uncertainty ahead of the U.S. presidential election also saw some investors reluctant to assume bold positions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 354.81 points, or 1.52 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,977.13.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 31.60 points, or 1.96 percent, to finish at 1,579.33.
Pulp and paper, precision instrument and securities house-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
