US contractor shown on militant video

A video showing a man who was abducted by an Iraqi militant group has turned up on the internet.

The man, believed to be a US military contractor, has been named as Issa Salomi, who was last seen in Baghdad on 23rd January.

Given permission to send greetings to his family, the man says: "I would like to express to all the members of my family, especially my wife, my children and my friends and to assure everybody that I'm being treated kindly and I'm in good health."

In the video, the man claims to have been abducted by a Shia Muslim group who are demanding the release of militants.

He says his abductors also want the prosecution of contractors from US security firm Blackwater and the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq.

Blackwater security guards, who were ostensibly protecting US diplomats in Baghdad, opened fire on people in the city in 2007, killing seventeen Iraqi's, including women and children.

A federal judge in the US has dismissed manslaughter charges
